Just Because it’s Valuable Doesn’t Mean It’s Not Spam.

I had a pretty awesome conversation over Twitter today with some wicked smart people about the topic of social media spam. I saw a post by Leo, the CEO of Buffer.   How to Easily Double Your Traffic from Social Media: http://t.co/LovAVFDOwp via @KISSmetricspic.twitter.com/emxpkyN8Q9 — Leo Widrich (@LeoWid) May 12, 2014     Then Adam Singer who works at Google replied that he felt this was a spam posting. I started a conversation with Adam and my friend and superstar marketer Nick Cicero jumped in. It was a spirited back and forth conversation that dived into what is spam on social media, what is the value and benefit of content marketing in general and more. Adam felt the tweet was spam because this was the second time it was posted.     @Brewbom it’s spam to me if I see the same link from same brand/person 2x. Spam is subjective. Go ahead & do whatever you want of course. — Adam Singer (@AdamSinger) May 12, 2014   Then Nick jumped in. Since the original post was at least loosely content marketing. @Brewbom @AdamSinger in general most content marketing is regurgitation of the same thing over and over til eventually you Continue reading Just Because it’s Valuable Doesn’t Mean It’s Not Spam.

Twitter Chats FTW – Why You Should Join The Conversation

twitter is the heart and soul

Twitter rocks. To me it is the heart and soul of the internet. One of the best parts of Twitter are the #twitterchats. They are incredibly simple, well focused and plumb the depths of conversation that Twitter enables. As the famous spot on cartoon says: So what the heck is a Twitter Chat? Well my Twitter pal Brian Fanzo had this great quote when i posed this question to him of what are twitter chats? {embedded tweet} In essence twitter chats are basically hashtag conversations. The best attribute about Twitter is that you can have conversations around TOPICS with anyone in the world not just around people you already know. Since all Twitter posts are public and Twitter is by nature a topical, timely and relevant place it is purpose-built for having conversations around topics. A hashtag at heart is simply a shorthand way to both tag posts and do quick searches.  hash·tag  (haSHtag} noun (on social media sites such as Twitter) a word or phrase preceded by a hash or pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic.   So why do Twitter chats rock? The 4 Essential Social Media Tools That Rock

4 ESSENTIAL SOCIAL MEDIA TOOLS

I am a social butterfly. I flit, I fly, I flutter. I also use tools. (Is that the definition of metrosexual?) And if there is one thing that my years as a chef, barista, coffee roaster and beer brewer taught me: The right tool is essential. Be it a professional, sharpenable chefs knife, the perfect tamper, or a digital hydrometer the better the tool the better the result. Tools do not make you a pro, but pros are better with better tools. Having a kick butt 9″ ceramic Wusthof does not make your dish Iron Chef worthy, nor your shallots minced perfectly evenly like little diamonds of deliciousness without the skill and talent to use it well. But it sure helps. Having a stainless 58.1mm Reg Barber concave Bubinga does not make your espresso extract in perfect glorious technicolor unless you also have the training and skill to get all the variables right and use it correctly. I am not a photographer. No matter how expensive my camera is I just am not a pro photographer. I tested this hypothesis with my friend Jeff Taylor of PT’s Coffee. He is a former photo journalist and he has not lost his Continue reading The 4 Essential Social Media Tools That Rock

Killer Tacos + Social Customer Care = Rock My World

social customer care

This article appeared on Sprout Social’s Insight blog I had an absolutely wondrous experience with a brand actively engaging on social media & taking that magic offline to my restaurant experience. The team at Puesto and Eric Adler are not only rocking amazing tacos but amazing customer service. Support them and support great local food and fantastic customer love. This is the new standard folks. Get ready. An excerpt from the full article: “Once you’ve implemented a great social media strategy, it can sometimes feel like you’re practicing theoretical physics. You have ideas and concepts in play that seem like they should create the desired results, but it may not be easy to see them taking shape in the real world with real consequences. When your strategy centers on customer service and delivering a great customer experience, though, the responses of your audience can give some much-needed evidence to support the theoretical side. To exemplify the connection between a great strategy and great results, we spoke with a savvy marketer and a happy customer. Andy Newbom is a social media expert and marketing strategist who had a noteworthy experience when eating at San Diego restaurant Puesto. To understand how the restaurant won Continue reading Killer Tacos + Social Customer Care = Rock My World
